Dear Board of Health,
After working for the health Department for 14 years as a nutritionist, I am
aware of the mission to educate the public regarding their health and safety,
and I respect that goal and value.
Your current attempts to "Legisilate, not Educate" or use the police power to
FORCE the public to follow your arbitrary whims, is very sad, and clearly
demonstrates your failure to suceed with convincing the public not to smoke the
"American Way". The American Way being of course the business or property
owner asserting his fundamental right to determine how to run his own
business using the will of his customers and his profit motive as his basic
and logical guide.
No one forces anyone to enter a restaurant or bar who has has an aversion to
smoke ! If you don't like smoke..... Don't GO!!!! If you think smoke expose
is bad, DON"T work there!!! DUH??
If you were truly concerned about the evils of smoking, Why don't you try to
OUTLAW it altogether ?? Why do you want to be "bully" in some venues but not
others? I have been informed that since you are in a government building, the
law does not even apply to YOU at the Health Dept!
One last note.....
The Biggest( literally) Problem in American, and especially Kentucky TODAY is
Obesity !!
When are you going to sic the Health Police out after the restaurants who
offer supersized portions or "All you can eat buffets"! After all, it
is sickening to see so many people stuffing themselves in public, and certainly
not a good example" for the Children" !!
What you are proposing is a Ban on Freedom, Choice and personal
Responsibility!! How sad and shortsighted.
In otherwords, if you can't encourage or sell your idea... Beat them into
submission!! After all, you are the government- YOU make the RULES!!
